Sap Data Warehouse Cloud – Build your IT landscape with SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, SAP’s strategic plan to deploy all data warehouses in the cloud in line with SAP’s value-added data portfolio strategy. This blog post provides an overview of how to transition an on-premises investment to the cloud for SAP BW and SAP BW/4HANA customers. More importantly, the cloud transformation checklist that can be used during the preparation of the project and during the actual migration of the SAP data warehouse to the cloud. The checklist contains different conversion methods (shell- and remote conversion), and their respective methods in different tabs with corresponding SAP notes. The checklist is in no way intended to replace a dedicated project plan, but rather to assist in the orientation of efforts. SAP Data Warehouse Cloud is SAP’s cloud product for data storage. It improves efficiency, makes time more efficient and opens up new possibilities with unprecedented business user capabilities, new opening models and integrated partnership offerings. Looking at the transition, SAP offers the possibility of SAP BW or SAP BW/4HANA investment supporting applications in the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, SAP BW Bridge (see Figure 1). The SAP BW layer is part of the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, which provides a cloud solution for SAP BW and SAP BW/4HANA customers. It enables integration with business content through data integration based on SAP BW (source) from SAP source systems. Additionally, it provides SAP BW configuration layer for data load (including delta) and classification, monitoring and error handling. This allows customers to leverage their existing SAP BW expertise and protect their SAP BW investment in the cloud. Any conversion requires manual interaction and reconfiguration (see Figure 2). The quality of these manual tasks varies from customer to customer and depends on the configuration and status of the SAP BW or SAP BW / 4HANA system. SAP has developed tools for this maintenance where possible and feasible, but they are not designed or intended to fix poorly designed models or clean up neglected systems. The tool transfers data based on XML files via RFC to SAP BW Releases 7.30 to 7.50 (to SAP HANA or Any-DB), and SAP BW/4HANA 2021 to the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, SAP BW Bridge. Regarding release coverage, please refer to SAP Note 3141688 for details. Each transfer depends on the selection of a part, i.e., a SAP BW object, for example, data can be transferred together in a consistent way. Please note that SAP BW 7.40 and lower is deprecated.

Data Federation Between Sap Data Warehouse Cloud ( Dwc ) And Google Bigquery

SAP provides a pre-check tool (see SAP Note 2575059) that outlines the steps customers need to take to ensure their systems are compliant with the conversion process. The tool determines which are compatible with SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, SAP BW Bridge and which are not compatible with SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, SAP BW Bridge. Additionally, it automatically checks for items that may be converted, deleted, or require manual maintenance (see Figure 2).

Regardless of the conversion type (see number 3), list simplification (which is currently supported, see SAP note 3154420) and conversion instructions are suitable as a starting point. The Simplification List explains in detail, at a functional level, what happens to each type of data and what is available in the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, SAP BW Bridge. Each note explains what to do in the conversion process. The Conversion Guide is an end-to-end documentation of the conversion to SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, SAP BW Bridge. Note: There are separate conversion instructions for shell conversion (see link) and separate conversion instructions for remote conversion (currently supported).

Migration Shell (see Figure 4) is provided by SAP to convert SAP BW or SAP BW/4HANA system to SAP Data Warehouse Cloud. It does not include migration and interaction of existing data sets. Instead, customers can load data from a source, load data from an SAP BW or SAP BW/4HANA system, or start fresh, ignoring historical data. For SAP BW systems from release 7.30 to 7.50 (running on SAP HANA or Any-DB) and SAP BW/4HANA 2021, a shell conversion can be performed.

Remote Migration (see Figure 5) is provided by SAP to migrate SAP BW or SAP BW/4HANA systems to the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud. It enables customers to transfer entire data streams or transfer only selected data streams with data. Customers can decide if they want to create a clean system, discarding old and unused items. For SAP BW systems from release 7.30 to 7.50 (running on SAP HANA or any-DB), remote changes can be made. SAP BW/4HANA 2021 as delivery system and remote migration will be possible soon.

Creating An Analytic Application Based On Sap Data Warehouse Cloud

SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, SAP BW Bridge, is the first and new investment in the cloud to help transition to secure cloud data storage. In fact, the benefits of the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud are well understood by many SAP customers. However, customers need a smooth transition path to protect their investment in SAP BW or SAP BW/4HANA. Migrating SAP BW or SAP BW/4HANA systems to the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud does not happen all at once. So it is important to understand and create the difference between SAP BW or SAP BW/4HANA and SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, SAP BW Bridge. Indeed, customers should carefully review their current systems, consider the complexity and duration of services required, and plan all changes carefully. If customers manage this well, their migration to SAP Data Warehouse Cloud will be successful.

It was only a matter of time until SAP’s SaaS cloud initiative led to the introduction of an Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) solution: SAP Data Storage Machine. The SAP data warehouse cloud works well with the SaaS source model because you get access to a single technical center. This allows better data transfer from source to EDW and thus facilitates uploading from cloud-based solutions to local warehouses. The difference with SAP Data Warehouse Cloud is that it does not follow the principles of good data warehouse models by the book. On the contrary, it follows the principle of consumer demand and starts small and simple (although this does not mean that complex warehouse solutions cannot be developed). Confusion can quickly lead to large-scale operational risks that the end user cannot see. In this case, the solution itself can be separated into two main themes: the semantic layer for simple, functional models of data sources, connections and transformations. A data warehouse is the foundation of all data collection and aggregation. This last layer, which SAP calls the data layer, influences concept building from the semantic layer source. The architecture of the solution itself shows that way, like SAP BW/4HANA, the type of software processing. But the opportunity to have SQL capabilities makes it attractive to companies that use SQL-based solutions for their EDWs. The diagram below shows all the parts of the solution and the solutions that can be combined with it. Potential advantages can be found in a simple graphical representation of the data structure; Ease of adding a data tent to a local drive or any data source, be it a data pool or a flat file is easy with semantic level replication options, supported by built-in adapters.
