What’s New In Sap Businessobjects Data Services 4.1
BusinessObject provides excellent analytical tools for companies to make smarter decisions, can work on very large-scale databases, and is relatively stable and trouble-free. Users can easily learn it and it offers many visual tools, hence different and easy-to-read formats to analyze data and make decisions easier and faster.
BusinessObjects can run and process databases with millions of records, it has very good visual tools that are easy for users to read and analyze, making it an easy tool for users to learn. It is flexible to run on any of the popular databases like MS-SQL or Oracle and is stable software that requires little intervention from system administrators, usually once installed it works smoothly.
It is complex to configure and requires more extensive training for system administrators to use it in the background. It is also expensive software and requires additional licenses from Oracle or some database developer, which then increases the cost.
Overall, it’s a great tool, but it’s getting a little outdated in the face of new options.
What’s New In Lorenz Drugtrack
It is a tool that can be integrated with other applications, can also work with a lot of data and build ad hoc reports. Finally, reporting from information cubes is friendly when you are a heavy user.
Something that needs to be improved is the view of the reports, they should migrate to a more user-friendly dashboard. Another problem is that it’s a bit complicated to understand how it works when you just start using it. The global market for business intelligence software reached $12.2 billion in 2011, according to a Gartner report released in early 2012. The top five vendors in this area accounted for nearly 75% of the total worldwide market. They were led by SAP with revenues of US$2.8 billion and a market share of 23.6% in 2011, and Oracle with revenues of US$1.9 billion, which took 15.6% of the market.
With these two software giants so clearly dominating the BI segment, a logical question – and one we’ve seen before in the community – is how do SAP BusinessObjects and Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) compare?
Sap Businessobjects Vs. Oracle Business Intelligence
OBIEE is Oracle’s flagship BI offering. It is a comprehensive set of BI applications built around the key acquisitions of Siebel Analytics and Hyperion Solutions. OBIEE is a cross-platform solution written in C++ and Java. It provides a unified system to perform a range of analytics functions, including interactive dashboards, ad hoc reporting, business and financial reporting, real-time predictive intelligence, offline analytics and more.
OBIEE comprises a number of component applications. The foundation of the system is Oracle Business Intelligence Server, a scalable platform for providing access to data and powerful calculations in an integrated web environment for users across the enterprise. Its unified architecture provides a consistent experience across components, which include: Oracle BI Server, Oracle BI Answers, Oracle BI Interactive Dashboards, Oracle BI Delivers, Oracle BI Disconnected Analytics, Oracle BI Publisher and Oracle BI Briefing Books and Hyperion Interactive Reporting, Hyperion SQR Production reporting, Hyperion Financial Reporting and Hyperion Web Analysis.
Like Oracle, SAP has become a leader in BI largely through strategic acquisitions. In 2007, SAP acquired French BI powerhouse Business Objects for nearly $7 billion, and today the BusinessObjects name is still associated with SAP’s flagship BI offerings.
SAP BusinessObjects is an easy-to-use, self-service BI suite that provides real-time visibility into business data and performance. Some of the key features are customizable reports, the ability to analyze multidimensional data sources in both web and Microsoft Office environments, predictive analytics, flexible dashboards, mobility and a flexible and scalable BI platform. From a functionality perspective, BusinessObjects is quite robust and allows customers to add modules as their needs change over time.
Map Intelligence For Sap Business Objects
Both BO and OBIEE were placed in the Leader’s Quadrant of Gartner’s latest Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence. In the Forrester Wave for Self-Service BI, released in the second quarter of 2012, Forrester positioned SAP as the leader and Oracle as the performer.
In the self-service business intelligence segment, success depends on delivering fast performance, intuitive data visualization, and powerful data exploration capabilities, and to that end, in-memory database management is top notch. In fact, Forrester cites SAP’s powerful in-memory DBMS as a differentiator for BusinessObjects. While most DBMS engines are limited to analyzing “a few hundred” GB of data at a time, “SAP now offers a highly differentiated combination of BusinessObjects Explorer with its leading exploration and discovery capabilities and the in-memory SAP HANA tool.”
Oracle previously lacked in-memory data analytics, but has closed the gap, according to Forrester, with the launch of its Exalytics in-memory BI engine.
On the other hand, Forrester researchers saw a need for better integration and standardization between the various component applications of SAP BusinessObjects. “In addition to self-service, SAP still needs to strengthen its product-to-product integration to close several integration gaps across its large BI product portfolio, such as the need for a more common user interface and improved components for reuse.” This is one particular area where OBIEE does quite well.
Trouble With Business Objects
There are some interesting tips about OBIEE and BO from Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for BI Platforms. Despite the two suppliers being market leaders, both have received some rather negative comments. Oracle was ranked “below average for product functionality, support and quality” and SAP was ranked below average for “BI functionality … performance, cost and roadmap confusion.” This begs the question of why they continue to have such a significant market presence, but that’s a whole other blog post.
Oracle customers have tended to choose OBIEE over competitors, largely because of its broad functionality. These customers tend to ignore ease of use and cost when making their purchases. OBIEE is incredibly expensive, even compared to BusinessObjects, so customers who ignore the costs really say something about the type of organizations that buy OBIEE.
If Gartner were to give an answer to the OBIEE or BusinessObjects question, they would most likely say “none”. Or at least make a reasonable case for exploring some of the leaders and challengers in the second tier. BI is an ever-growing segment, and there are 100s of vendors hot on the heels of these two titans vying for your attention.
